Scattergories categories game review

So coming up with words turned out to be more of a science than I expected! But after two weeks and almost 1. Like I said earlier, reviewing my own game may not be the most believable thing I could do although I must ask, have I steered you wrong in the past?

This game is a fun twist on the original game Scattergories , and, I think, gives the game an additional level of strategy. Players are given a word that describes a category — it is then up to the players to come up with words that start with each of the letters in the original describing word — a deeper level of play. Dirt is everywhere. It was great — a huge improvement over the original.

More letters makes it only slightly easier and tons more inventive and thus more fun in my book. Having a love of Scattergories and board games in general, I was naturally drawn to this new hit game. What I enjoyed the most is having the category provided and then different letters as opposed to rolling a die and using one letter the whole time. I think this offers more diversity in answers and more playing fun!

A popular classic, this game is based on word play and categories, and aims to bring laughter and families together. However, as the hourglass slowly trickles away, tensions rise, mind blanks occur, and desperate times lead to outrageous results.

That means that you only get points for words that nobody else has used. All players be it teams or individuals get one of the Scattegory cards, a pen, and a Scattegory list each. Once everyone is ready, you roll the 20 sided die to determine what letter all players must follow. Once the letter has been established, the timer is flipped, and everyone falls into a silent state for 2 minutes, only writing words that start with the designated letter that fit into the category on the list.

Players then compare lists in an open environment, and the group decides whether or not the word meets the requirements. If no other player has the same magazine name, you get one point or 2 points in this case, due to alliteration.

Once the amount of rounds desired is concluded, each player counts how many points they have in total. The person with the most points at the end of the game is the winner. Packaging : The typical classic cardboard box.

Sections are quite convenient, and are very easy to identify at first glance. To begin, each player is given an answering pad and three category cards with one player rolling the 20 sided die to determine which letter will be played first, then the time is set for three minutes.

Each card contains 4 lists and in each list, there are 12 unique categories. After agreeing which list they will be playing from, they then begin to think of items that belong in the category. An example would be a Fruit Category where players have to think of items beginning with the letter B such as Banana or Blueberry. Once the timer has finished, players stop writing and then players read out their answer for each.

If other players share the same answer then they receive 0 points but if they have an answer that no other player has, they receive 1 point. The game plays for three rounds before the person with the highest number of points becomes the winner.

Scattegories has been released in a number of countries with a Red Box Edition being released. In , a Scattegories refill pack was released offering more categories and lists.
