People always use Outlook to manage e-mails. But sometimes they may find that they can't open or even save an e-mail attachment in Outlook with the prompted words saying:" Cannot create file: XXX file name.

In order to troubleshoot the error while opening or saving attachments, you need to force the Outlook email client to work with specific temporary folders. For this, the solution varies as per the edition of MS Outlook in which error is occurring. First, determine the version of email client and then, execute the associated method.

The are several Microsoft users who adopted this solution and got their problem fixed. It is so because there is only one major cause of the Cannot save the attachments in Outlook , , problem and hence, fix solution to this. Doesn't change anything, plus the behavior is the same with all accounts 1 exchange and 3 gmail accounts : attachments can't be saved directly, OR through the application that manages them ie: I open a Word attachment with Word, I can work on it but I can't save it - the save window doesn't come up, nothing happens.

And the documents are NOT opened in protected mode Only thing I haven't tried is completely uninstall and reinstall Office , and I have a hunch that this is what you will suggest next but I'd like to avoid this if possible! Thanks for trying, but your suggested solutions are much too generic for my problem - sure, if I format my drive and reinstall a new copy of Windows and Office it will probably solve my problem, but is this a solution?

The usual windows explorer window for saving the document doesn't come up, absolutely nothing happens. If I try the "Save all attachments" option, I see the small window showing a list of all the attachments as usual, and then when I click Ok I get a message like "The server is not available.

Contact your administrator if this situation persists" translated from French, but that's the gist of it. I tried repairing Office, but it changes nothing. Thanks for any help, RP. This thread is locked. You can follow the question or vote as helpful, but you cannot reply to this thread.
